9/11- The Ground Zero Series

The Artist’s Statement: “Since September 11, 2001 our world has changed drastically. I was affected by the bombing so strongly, but didn’t know how to depict my feelings on canvas. The devastation was so complete that it was difficult to look at it, let alone paint. Going to Ground Zero was inspiring to see how people pulled together, viewing the smoldering crater and knowing all the tragedy that had occurred there. I’ve spent two years thinking about it, dwelling on it, fearing it could recur one any given day. As an artist, I wondered what I could do. I finally decided to make a series of paintings that might offer some hope to me and others in the midst of such ugliness. That was the inspiration for this series of paintings There are forces in the world that want to stamp out all the beauty and art. It’s our job as artists to continue to work with the truth – hope and beauty around us. I hope that this is a little uplifting for those who view it. I wanted this series of paintings to be imposing and profound – their impact is simple, but strong.”
